New suite of online resources puts EV policy information at the fingertips of policymakers and EV advocates

Washington, D.C. — The Electrification Coalition unveiled its EV Policy Showroom Thursday, offering policymakers, EV advocates, industry partners and other stakeholders an online trove of easily navigable data and policy information on the deployment and adoption of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

“Widespread electrification of the American transportation sector will require concerted policy action by stakeholders at the federal, state and local levels,” Electrification Coalition National Director Ben Prochazka said. “The EV Policy Showroom will help all those working in the EV policy arena to move forward at the accelerated pace required to ensure that we realize the economic, national security and public health benefits afforded by the electrification of transportation.”

The EV Policy Showroom features databases, calculators, guidance and tools that provide free, easy access to up-to-date transportation-electrification policy information, with an emphasis on state-level policies. The Showroom includes the State EV Policy Dashboard, EV Roadmap Roundup, EV Funding and Financing Guide and EV Tools and Calculators Clearinghouse.

The State EV Policy Dashboard displays the status of 10 leading state EV policy strategies, updated monthly. This interactive search tool also includes a comprehensive nationwide database of state policies pertaining to transportation electrification. Users can search by state and/or policy category, such as charging incentives, EV purchase incentives, Zero Emission Vehicle programs and EV-ready building codes, and monitor EV fees.

The tool, developed in partnership with Atlas Public Policy, allows users to filter their search results by state, policy category and the date range during which policies are enacted. Search results include short summaries of each policy and a link to the policy text.

“Our EV Policy Data Dashboard is a one-stop shop for leading state EV policies,” Electrification Coalition Policy Director Sue Gander said. “There is a tremendous amount of activity right now in the world of EV policy, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But this new tool will help policymakers and EV advocates alike find model policies, efficiently explore key topics, track progress by individual states and stay up to date on states imposing EV fees. There’s no need to feel like you’re lost in the wilderness of EV policy – we’re here with a map and compass.”

The EV Funding and Financing Guide details programs and policies from a variety of sources that fleets and consumers can use to overcome cost barriers. The guide covers federal, state, local and utility resources, as well as legal settlements, state and regional carbon market revenues, future operational savings and the monetization of vehicle-to-grid capabilities. It also discusses strategies to reduce the upfront costs of EVs and EV infrastructure by pooling demand and promoting competition.

“Consumers and fleets can save thousands of dollars over the life of an EV, but higher initial costs can be a barrier to wider adoption,” Prochazka said. “Fleet managers and consumers can use this guide to easily identify funding and financing options so they can start reaping the benefits of EVs more quickly. Policymakers and other stakeholders can use the guide to identify and replicate model programs from other states and regions.”

The EV Roadmap Roundup is a digital library of EV roadmaps from 17 states and three large cities. These planning documents outline cities’ and states’ goals and pathways forward to widespread adoption of EVs and implementation of charging infrastructure, including incentive programs, utility rate structures, consumer education programs and equity considerations. The Roadmap Roundup also includes cross-cutting observations and recommendations gleaned from a comparative analysis of the state plans and a tool that generates custom side-by-side comparisons among states.

“For states and communities that are developing or updating their EV roadmaps, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel,” Gander said. “We’ve developed a broad collection of EV roadmaps that can serve as references and templates.”

The EV Tool & Calculator Clearinghouse is an extensive collection of guides, resources and calculators that provide insights on a wide variety of subjects, including emissions calculations, infrastructure planning, incentive impacts, public health benefits, cost comparisons, fleet procurement and available vehicle models.

“This is your destination for tools and calculators developed by federal and state agencies, industry partners, nonprofits and other electrification leaders,” Prochazka said. “It’s a carefully curated collection that puts dozens of resources at your fingertips.”

The Electrification Coalition will provide a virtual tour of the EV Policy Showroom via webinar at 2 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Feb. 24. Learn more and register on Zoom by clicking here.
